More Bash for Your Cash

Every time a new package comes in the mail, it reminds me of why I love love love working in 10mm.  This load of guys right here cost me about twenty bucks:

Twenty-seven figures.  Or I could have had five GW
figures.  Good luck stocking a dungeon at those prices.
This shot doesn't even include the 2 troll figures that are too big for my bases or the five lizardmen banner carriers that weren't what I expected.  You'd think that a blister of 'command' would include leader types and maybe a wizard, but not in this case.  They got chucked in the scrap box - the skulls on the banner tops may come in handy someday.

Those of you who have been following The MegaDungeon posts will recognize this horde of figures as residents of Level 6 - The Brutes - the minotaurs and their ogre slaves.  The trolls waving their hands can show up anywhere, and the little guys there are the human sized heroes.  The colorful one on the right was painted by my 7 year old daughter - start 'em young!  She's also the graphic designer I hired for International Anklebiter Illustration Day.

  1. The other good thing about 10mm is that they are pretty easy to convert.
Why not have a go at the Lizardmen with banners and make a wizard and commander? That's what I did with the Minotaurs.

  2. Are they? I've been nervous converting figures at that size. The plan was to let my daughter paint all the cast-offs from my collection, but there's no reason not to do both. I'll see what I can finagle with those banner lizards after I get the rest of the bruisers painted.

  3. Yup, I had never done any converting before I set upon the Minotaurs. And once you've done them, it's worth sticking pictures up on Pendraken's forum. Leon may ask you to do copies of your conversions that he can cast them up and pay you for your work. That is what happened to me.

  4. Devoted fan of 10mm that I am, I still have to admit that I've had some trouble with conversions at this scale because the models are frequently too small to pin. For instance, I did a weapon swap on one mini and it ended up too fragile with just glue holding the new sword and hand in place.

Conversions that are large enough to pin securely in place (such as adding the torso of an amazon to lower half of a female beggar) have gone better.
